Backlog of COVID cases gives Avoyelles a jolt -- 232 new cases, no additional deaths

State had backlog of 674 cases statewide in Monday report

The Louisiana Department of Health's COVID website noted that Monday's update includes a backlog of 674 COVID cases. Apparently -- or hopefully -- this backlog included a large number of Avoyelles Parish cases.

The Monday report released results of 4,273 tests since Friday's update. There were 232 positive results in those tests, reflecting an overall positive rate of 5.4 percent. Of those tests, 4,173 were lab tests with 229 positive results. There were only 100 rapid result tests diagnosing three new cases.

The report does not identify how many of the new cases were from the past week or how many are among the backlogged results.

It does serve as a wake up call to Avoyelles Parish that the war on COVID isn't going quite as well as it had appeared.

There were no additional deaths in the Monday report.

The pandemic totals for Avoyelles as of Monday are 7,323 cases and 181 deaths. Statewide the totals are 760,000 cases and 14,555 deaths.
