Friday COVID in Avoyelles: no new cases, one more death

Avoyelles Parish was pitching a shutout against COVID-19 Friday, right up to the last pitch in the bottom of the 9th inning, when the virus once again reminded us that it still poses a threat.

There were no new cases of COVID in Avoyelles Parish in the Friday update from the state health department. In the 120 tests reviewed, there were no first-time infections and no reinfections.

Then the report noted there had been one more COVID-related death in the parish since Thursday.

COVID wins again.

As of Friday, Avoyelles' pandemic totals were 11,560 cases involving 10,763 individuals, with 797 of them being reinfected at least 90 days after their initial diagnosis with COVID. The almost two-year death toll rose to 202.
