Friday COVID update for Avoyelles: 41 cases, no deaths

Avoyelles Parish came very close to hitting a landmark for COVID statistics Friday -- "only" 100 new cases per day per 100,000 population. For this parish of approximately 40,000 people, that would be an actual number of new cases of 40, with the parish's cases multiplied by 2.5 to get equate a 100,000 population.

In the Friday report from the Louisiana Department of Health, the parish had a total new active case count of 41 -- 35 first-time victims and six reinfections. For the second day in a row, the reduced number of cases occurred even though there were more tests reviewed. If this trend continues, it will mean Omicron is receding and the "Fifth Wave" will end.

The parish continued another optimistic trend -- another day with no additional COVID-related deaths.

As of Friday, Avoyelles Parish's 22-month totals (it will start its 23rd month on Feb. 21) was 11,237 total cases -- 10,485 individual victims with 742 being reinfected and 189 dying from COVID-related complications. The state totals were 1.19 million cases with 15,905 deaths.
