Recent number of new cases are low, but Avoyelles weekly positive rate rises

Avoyelles Parish has had a net gain of only four new COVID cases in the past two daily updates from the state health department. However, the parish's official weekly positive rate rose for the third week in a row in Wednesday's report, from 0.8 for March 25-31 to 1.2 percent for April 1-7.
The parish is still classified as a "moderate risk" parish. Several neighbors are in the "high risk" category.
As of Thursday, Avoyelles' 13-month pandemic total was at 4,044 total infections with 3,517 "confirmed" by lab tests and 527 considered "probable" for the virus due to rapid result tests. The death toll remained at 122, with 113 victims "confirmed" as COVID-related and nine "probable."
The state's pandemic totals were 451,476 cases and 10,273 deaths.
