Tuesday COVID update: four new cases out of 36 tests

It was a very light day for Avoyelles Parish in Tuesday's COVID update from the state health department, with only 36 test results reviewed.

It was what has to be hoped to be a "luck of the draw" when one looks at the positive rate for that small sampling. There were four new cases of COVID identified -- three in the 28 molecular tests and one in the eight rapid result tests. That would be a one-day snapshot of 11.1 overall -- 10.7 percent of lab tests and 12.5 percent of rapid result tests.

If those rates were in batches of over 300 tests, there would be cause for concern. The recent very good reports outweigh this low-number blip.

The parish's pandemic totals as of Tuesday were 4,349 cases and 124 deaths since March 2020. The state's pandemic totals on Tuesday were 480.876 cases and 10,732 deaths related to the virus.
