Remembering Edwin Edwards to air on LPB

The new program just one of several options from LPB for in-depth coverage on the former governor

With the passing of former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards, Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) is using its extensive archival resources to bring viewers several opportunities for historical perspective on Louisiana’s only four-term governor.

LPB’s coverage begins Friday, July 16 at 7pm with Louisiana: The State We’re In. André Moreau will give viewers a look at Edwards’ life and career using archived footage from past profiles and debates as well as a never-before-seen interview with Edwards conducted just a few years before his death. Viewers can watch an encore on Sunday, July 18 at 4:30 PM.

The former governor will lie in state at the Louisiana State Capitol on Saturday, July 17. LPB will provide a live stream of the viewing at lpb.org from 10 AM to 12 PM on Saturday for those wishing to pay their respects while being COVID aware.

LPB will present Remembering Edwin Edwards, a one-hour special airing Monday, July 19 at 7:00 PM. Hosted by André Moreau, the program dives deep into LPB’s considerable digital archives, which include profiles, interviews, and debates, bringing viewers a more in-depth portrait of the complex politician. Additional perspective will be provided by journalists Beth Courtney and Bob Courtney, who both spent decades covering Edwards during his multiple terms in office.

Beth Courtney also serves as LPB’s President: “The scope of LPB’s coverage during Edwards’ four-terms in office is remarkable. We are very fortunate to have a resource like Louisiana Digital Media Archive to house all of our historical footage so that it can be available for generations to come.”

Louisiana Digital Media Archive (LDMA) is the online home of the LPB Digital Collection and the Louisiana State Archives Multimedia Collection. The ever-expanding site contains a combined catalog of thousands of hours of media recorded in Louisiana in the late 20th and early 21st centuries and is freely available for streaming. Viewers can access a selection of archived material on Edwin Edwards at www.ladigitalmedia.org.
