Bunkie Police identify suspect in April 6 shooting; arrest pending..
The investigation into a shooting earlier this month that left an 18 year old Bunkie High School student seriously injured has reached a new development, as authorities confirm a suspect has been identified and an arrest warrant has been issued.
The incident occurred around 10:28 p.m. on April 6 near Keller Street and South Mable Street. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found the victim suffering from a gun- shot wound to the face. He was treated at the scene before being transported to a hospital.
According to investigators, the victim and others were walking to a nearby residence when an individual approached and fired multiple shots before leaving the area.
In an official statement released by Assistant Chief of Police Brandon Horton, authorities confirmed that investigators have now identified one suspect in the case. “Our investigations team has been working feverishly on this case since the incident occurred,” Horton said.
“This investigation remains our investigators’ top priority.” Horton stated that an arrest warrant has been signed and issued, and that an arrest is pending. He also noted that investigators believe more than one individual may have been involved.
Due to the active and ongoing nature of the case, officials said information remains limited in order to protect the integrity of the investigation. “As the investigation progressed, our investigators have developed and identified one suspect involved in the incident,” Horton said. “Our investigation suspects the possibility of more than one suspect involved, therefore further information cannot be released at this time.”
Authorities also addressed concerns from the public regarding the pace of the investigation, emphasizing the importance of careful and thorough police work.
“In investigations, it takes time to develop information to make an arrest, especially when witnesses choose not to speak up,” Horton said. “If we rush an investigation and it gets thrown out in court, then we have not given the victim any justice.”
Family members of the victim have continued to seek answers and transparency as the case unfolds. In a statement shared on social media, the victim’s mother, Yolanda Allen, asked for continued communication regarding investigative progress and next steps.
Relatives describe the teen as a Bunkie High School student preparing to graduate, maintaining a 3.2 grade point average while participating in basketball and track. He has received All District Honorable Mention recognition and is known among family and friends for his focus and respectfulness. His family says he had plans to pursue a career as a truck driver and was working toward building a stable future.
