Arts Council to host Black History Month Art Exhibit
The Arts Council of Avoyelles is inviting local and regional artists to take part in a special Black History Month Art Exhibit and Program celebrating Black history, culture and heritage.
Artists of all skill levels are encouraged to participate, with all art mediums welcome, including - paintings - handwork - books - mixed media - other creative forms
The exhibit will highlight artistic expressions that honor Black contributions, stories, resilience and creativity.
The event will be held on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gallery on the Square, located at 122 E. Mark Street in Marksville.
The evening will feature an art exhibit and program marking 100 years of Black History Month, with themes centered on innovation, creativity, resilience and triumph.
The Arts Council notes that the exhibit provides artists with a meaningful opportunity to showcase their work, connect with the community and participate in a cultural celebration that reflects both history and progress.

Avoyelles NAACP to honor African American educators at annual banquet
The NAACP Avoyelles Parish Branch will host its 2nd Annual Banquet Honoring African American Educators on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. at the Cochon de Lait Pavilion, located at 1822 Leglise St. in Mansura.
The annual event, held in recognition of Black History Month, will celebrate the contributions and lasting impact of African American educators who have shaped students, schools and communities throughout Avoyelles Parish and beyond.
Serving as the special guest speaker will be Cleo Fields, who currently represents Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Fields is widely recognized for his decades of public service and advocacy in education, civil rights and public policy.
Attendees are encouraged to wear formal or African attire in keeping with the cultural significance of the occasion.
The banquet provides an opportunity for community members to gather in fellowship while honoring excellence in education and reflecting on the importance of continued progress.
