Avoyelles Parish Class of 1975 celebrates 50 years of unity.

Fifty years after graduation and navigating the complexities of school integration, the Class of 1975 from Avoyelles Parish high schoolsโ€”Mansura, Marksville, Moreauville, Hessmer and Simmesport came together for a memorable โ€œGolden Reunionโ€ held Oct. 17โ€“19 in Marksville.

The milestone event, rich with fellowship, reflection, and joy, brought classmates back to the Bethune Community Center, where many of their shared experiences began decades ago. The weekend provided a poignant opportunity to reconnect, reminisce, and celebrate enduring friendships that have withstood the test of time.

Festivities kicked off Friday evening with a lively Meet and Greet, allowing attendees to catch up and share stories after decades apart.

Saturday's agenda included: - A morning family picnic - A semi-formal banquet

The banquet served as a centerpiece for the weekend, honoring attendees, the dedicated reunion committee, and paying tribute to classmates who have since passed away.

Inspiring words were delivered by several guest speakers, including: - Marksville Mayor John Lemoine - Mansura Mayor Kenneth Pickett - Lara Harmason representing Moreauville Mayor Beryl Holmes - Latisha Small - Marsha Jordan - Rev. Charles E. Guillory

A moving performance of the class song, โ€œMemories,โ€ was given by classmate Glynn Hardy.

The celebration concluded on Sunday, October 19, with a heartfelt worship service at Simpson Baptist Church, led by classmate Rev. Terrell Pieriteโ€”a fitting and spiritual close to a weekend dedicated to gratitude, remembrance, and renewed bonds.

The successful reunion was the result of a year of meticulous planning by a dedicated committee: - Ronald Carmouche, Chairman - Joseph Gabriel Augustine, Vice Chairman - Susan Martin, Marksville Representative - Iris Harmason, Moreauville Representative/Treasurer - Patricia Sampson, Secretary/Treasurer - Charlene Batiste, Treasurer

Special acknowledgements were given throughout the weekend. A memorial tribute was presented by Karen Butler, and class souvenirs, featuring custom designs by artist Jeanette Prier, were handled by Julian James.

Former reunion chairperson Virginia Young presented a plaque to current chairman Ronald Carmouche in recognition of his outstanding leadership.

Fifty years after their high school journey began, the parish-wide Class of 1975 continues to embody a spirit of unity and pride that bridges generations, offering a shining reminder that true friendships are a timeless treasure.
