Valois and Normand earn top parish awards for 2026

Avoyelles Parish Schools are celebrating two standout educators whose leadership, instructional excellence, and commitment to students have earned them top district honors for 2026. Morgan Valois of Marksville Elementary School has been named the 2026 New Teacher of the Year, while Chuck Normand, principal of Bunkie Magnet High School, has been selected as the 2026 Avoyelles Parish Principal of the Year.

2026 New Teacher of the Year

Valois, a 3rd-grade English Language Arts teacher, has quickly become a strong instructional presence at Marksville Elementary. Known for her structured classroom environment, engaging lessons, and ability to build meaningful connections with students, Valois has already made a significant impact early in her teaching career. Administrators praised her preparation, professionalism, and dedication to literacy improvement as the school continues its academic growth efforts.

The New Teacher of the Year award is presented annually to an educator in their first years of service who shows exceptional promise and contributes to the advancement of student success across Avoyelles Parish. District leaders encouraged the community to join them in congratulating Valois on this milestone achievement.

2026 Principal of the Year

Bunkie Magnet High School Principal Chuck Normand has also been recognized for his ongoing leadership and commitment to strengthening opportunities for students and teachers. Under his direction, the school has continued to build a strong culture of achievement, support and academic growth.

Superintendent Karen Tutor commended Normand’s work, stating:

"We are incredibly proud of Mr. Normand and his staff for the outstanding work they do each day at Bunkie High School. Their commitment to strengthening opportunities for students and supporting academic success is evident in everything they do. We are especially grateful for the ways they continue to promote our district’s vision by helping students achieve at high levels, applaud their accomplishments, and accomplish their goals. Their work is making a meaningful and lasting impact on the students, families, and the communities they serve."

As the 2026 Avoyelles Parish Principal of the Year, Normand will now advance to the state-level competition.

Avoyelles Parish Schools extended congratulations to both Morgan Valois and Chuck Normand, recognizing the dedication they bring to their schools and the positive influence they have on students across the parish.
