Normand earns statewide recognition as Principal of the Year semifinalist

Chuck Normand, principal of Bunkie Magnet High School, has been named a 2025–2026 State Semifinalist for Principal of the Year, an honor recognizing outstanding school leadership across Louisiana.

A graduate of Bunkie High School (Class of 2004), Normand has deep roots in the school community he now leads. He began his career in education as a teacher at Bunkie High School before advancing to assistant principal and ultimately principal, demonstrating a longstanding commitment to the success of its students and staff.

Normand, who has served as principal at Bunkie Magnet High School since 2017, was selected as one of 24 semifinalists statewide. The recognition highlights his commitment to academic excellence, student growth, and fostering a positive and supportive school environment.

During his tenure, Bunkie Magnet High School has:

  • Increased its school performance score (SPS) from a “D” to an “A”
  • Seen significant growth in enrollment
  • Strengthened community partnerships that enhance opportunities for students

He is a leader who puts people first, builds a strong school culture based on values, and focuses on helping students succeed through teamwork and student centered decisions. Normand sets high expectations for all students and truly lives out the school’s mission with PRIDE, contributing to the school’s continued success.

“We are incredibly proud of Mr. Normand and this well-deserved recognition,” said Karen L. Tutor, Superintendent of Avoyelles Parish Schools. “His leadership at Bunkie Magnet High School reflects a deep commitment to excellence and a passion for helping students and educators succeed. This honor is a testament to the positive impact he makes each day.”

“Being named a semifinalist is an honor, but it really shows the hard work of our whole school. At Bunkie High, we focus on patience, respect, integrity, determination, and excellence every day. This recognition belongs to our students, teachers, and staff who show those values every day,” Normand said.

The Principal of the Year program, coordinated by the Louisiana Department of Education, recognizes school leaders who demonstrate excellence in instructional leadership, school improvement, and community engagement.

As a semifinalist, Normand will advance in the selection process, with finalists to be announced in May.
