Abram Temple to hold garage sale and dinner Sept. 26

Abram Temple Church of God in Christ in Bunkie will hold a garage and dinner sale Saturday, Sept. 26, at 519 Pershing Ave.

The garage sale will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include clothing, shoes, furniture, kitchenware, home décor and other items.

Dinner sales will begin at 10:30 a.m. Plates are $12 and will include smoked chicken, potato salad, baked beans, green beans, a roll and cake.

First Evening Star Baptist Church — Cottonport

First Evening Star Baptist to host Annual Women’s Tea

First Evening Star Baptist Church will hold its annual Women’s Tea at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 9312 Bryan St. in Cottonport.

This year’s theme is “Women of Many Hats.” Sister Calisha Johnson will serve as the guest speaker, and attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite hats. The afternoon will include singing, praise dancing, games and door prizes. Tickets are $10 each.

St. Michael Church — Rexmere

Local churches plan special Mass, blessing of the animals

A special Mass celebrating the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. at St. Michael Church in Rexmere.

All are welcome to attend the Mass and support the faithful of St. Michael Church. There will be no morning Mass that day at St. Peter’s Church.

Christ the King Catholic Church — Simmesport

Local churches plan special Mass, blessing of the animals

In honor of St. Francis of Assisi, two blessing of the animals events are also planned in early October.

The first will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, at 5:30 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 705 Main Street in Simmesport. For more information about the Christ the King event, call (318) 941-2381.

The blessings will be held in front of the churches. In the event of poor weather, arrangements will be made to hold the blessing under cover. Animals of any size are welcome. Organizers ask that pets and other animals be safely leashed, crated or otherwise secured and that owners clean up after them as appropriate.

Marksville Church of the Nazarene — Marksville

Church of the Nazarene to celebrate 100th anniversary

The Marksville Church of the Nazarene will celebrate a century of faith, fellowship and service during its 100th Anniversary Homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 4.

The celebration will begin with a special homecoming worship service at 10 a.m. Dinner on the grounds will follow the service, giving current and former members, families and friends an opportunity to visit, share memories and celebrate the church’s history.

Church members are inviting former members, past attendees and anyone with a connection to the congregation to return for the milestone occasion. Community residents are also welcome to attend and help commemorate the church’s 100 years of ministry.

The anniversary homecoming will provide an opportunity to remember those who helped establish and strengthen the congregation while also celebrating the families and church members who continue its ministry today.

Organizers encourage residents to mark their calendars and share the event information with relatives, friends and former church members who may have moved away from the area. Additional information about the celebration will be announced in the coming months.

The Marksville Church of the Nazarene is located at 4192 Highway 1192 in Marksville.

“The Finale” to honor Pastor Charles E. Guillory Oct. 17

St. John Community Church-Baptist will host “The Finale,” an all-black formal wear retirement gala honoring Pastor Charles E. Guillory, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, in the Paragon Casino Resort ballroom.

Dr. Samuel Tolbert Jr. will serve as guest speaker. Formal black attire is requested, and the public is invited to attend.

Tickets are $30 per person and may be purchased through Cash App at $531stjohnccb. Purchasers should include their name and the number of tickets requested.
