Jesus & Jammies Event planned for Mothers and Daughters

A special mother-and-daughter evening, Jesus & Jammies, will be held Friday, Sept. 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hessmer Baptist Church, 2927 Main St.

The event will feature a night of fun and activities for mothers and daughters, with participants encouraged to wear their pajamas. Registration is available through the Church Center app.

Antioch Missionary Baptist to celebrate 159th Anniversary

Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Bordelonville will celebrate its 159th church anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 20, with a special “Pack the Pew” service.

The celebration will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the church, located at 3925 N. Bayou Des Glaises Road in Bordelonville.

Church members are encouraged to bring friends and guests as part of the anniversary celebration and “Bring a Friend. Be a Blessing. Let’s fill the house for the Lord!”

The member who invites the most guests will receive a gift. The church is marking the anniversary with a focus on faith, fellowship, family and community.

Word of Faith Kingdom Church to host Testimonial Service

Word of Faith Kingdom Church in Cottonport will host a special Testimonial Service on Sunday, Sept. 6, at 2:30 p.m.

The service will be held at the church, located at 183 Cottonport Avenue in Cottonport, under the leadership of Pastor Earnest Anderson Jr.

Organizers are inviting the community to attend, share testimonies and join together for an afternoon of worship and fellowship.

The theme for the event is “God Sees You,” with attendees encouraged to wear colors of the rainbow as part of the service.

Golden Chain Baptist Church to celebrate 149th Anniversary

Golden Chain Baptist Church, located on Highway 362 in Cottonport (near Indian Bayou), will celebrate its 149th church anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m.

The congregation invites the community to join them in celebrating nearly a century and a half of faith, fellowship and service.

Cajun Music Legend Sheryl Cormier to perform in Evergreen

Sheryl Cormier, known as the “Queen of Cajun Music,” will perform a free Cajun music concert Sunday, Sept. 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Friends of Evergreen Methodists Social Center, 281 Hill St. in Evergreen.

Doors will open at 1 p.m. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $5.

Cormier, a Grand Coteau native with family ties to Avoyelles Parish, is recognized as a trailblazer in Cajun music. She taught herself to play accordion at age seven and later became the first woman to record a Cajun accordion soundtrack. She went on to form the first all-female Cajun band and was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2011.

The event is sponsored by Friends of Evergreen Methodists, Inc., a nonprofit organization focused on preserving Cajun-French culture and bringing community activities to the former Evergreen Methodist Church building.

The venue is non-smoking and non-vaping, and alcohol is not permitted. Seating will be in vintage wooden pews, and free bottled water will be available. Dancing will not be allowed during the concert.


Women at the Well Prayer Gathering set for Sept. 3

St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marksville will host Women at the Well, an Avoyelles Parish women’s prayer gathering, on Thursday, Sept. 3, beginning at 6 p.m.

The event will be held in the St. Joseph Church Hall, 141 S. Washington St. in Marksville, and is hosted by the St. Joseph Ladies.

Women from across Avoyelles are invited to attend for an evening of prayer, fellowship and reflection.

A light meal will be served.
