Davonta Butler named Chess Representative for Louisiana Chess Association North Region

Davonta Butler, a Bunkie Chess Club instructor and director, has been named Chess Representative for the Louisiana Chess Association North Region.

Butler, who also serves as a firefighter and AEMT and works as a librarian, has been leading the Heart of Bunkie Chess Club and helping students and community members learn and grow through the game.

"As some of you may know, I'm a firefighter, AEMT, librarian and even a Chess Club Director/Instructor;" Butler said. "Recently though, I've accepted a new responsibility."

In his new role, Butler will represent the North Region of the Louisiana Chess Association, helping to support and grow chess programs throughout the region.

He encourages anyone interested in learning how to play chess, needing advice on how to improve a local team or wanting to set up tournaments to reach out via email at HOBCC.community @Gmail.com.

The Heart of Bunkie Chess Team recently traveled to Gonzales to take on a group of strong competitors and returned with an impressive 14-2 victory in the U1200 Division.

Individual results included:

• Davonta - 1st place (4-0)
• Lucas - 1st place (4-0)
• Justin - 2nd place (3-1)
• Ronald - 2nd place (3-1)

"Big Thanks to Gonzales Parish Library and the Gonzales Chess Team for hosting us," Butler said.

He also thanked the team's supporters: Heart of Worship Church of Lettsworth, Living Hope Outreach Ministry, KCOLEXTEME (Clothing Brand), Crispy Cajun Chicken and Wright Studios.

Their win is another example of how the Heart of Bunkie Chess Club continues to make a positive impact both on and off the board.
