Diocese sets deadlines for Bankruptcy Abuse Claims
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Alexandria has announced court ordered deadlines for filing claims related to its Chapter 11 bankruptcy case, including claims from individuals alleging sexual abuse.
According to the Diocese, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Louisiana has set June 8, 2026 as the deadline for general and abuse-related claims. Government entities must file by April 29, 2026.
Claims must be submitted to the court-appointed agent, Stretto Inc., by the applicable deadline.
The court has approved a confidential claim form for individuals alleging sexual abuse to protect privacy, with all submitted information remaining sealed and unavailable to the public.
The Diocese stated that anyone who believes the Diocese or individuals affiliated with it may be responsible for sexual abuse must file a claim to preserve their rights, regardless of when the alleged abuse occurred or whether it was previously reported.
The Diocese filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Oct. 31, 2025, stating the move was intended to create a fair process for addressing claims while continuing its religious and charitable mission.
