Jesus, Open the Eyes of My Heart
A powerful story of grief, healing, and spiritual renewal is at the heart of Jesus, Open the Eyes of My Heart, a devotional written by local author Marsha Gauthier.
Following the loss of her mother, Gauthier experienced deep emotional pain, including PTSD, and struggled to find direction in her faith. She describes feeling lost in the chaos of everyday life until a moment she now calls a divine calling.
She recalls waking from a deep sleep with a clear sense that she was meant to begin writing. That moment led to her first project, The Ultimate Journey, a grief journal that helped guide her toward a greater purpose.
Determined to better understand her calling, Gauthier began actively seeking God. That journey led her to attend an ACTS Retreat, a three-day Catholic experience centered on Adoration, Community, Theology, and Service. It was there, she says, that her faith was renewed.
“That retreat changed everything,” she shared. “It reminded me that we are all worthy in the eyes of Jesus Christ through His love and wisdom.”
Within a year, she completed Jesus, Open the Eyes of My Heart, a devotional rooted in her personal experiences. Each entry reflects real-life moments from her spiritual journey, offering readers both testimony and guidance.
The title itself holds deep meaning. Gauthier explains that “opening the eyes of my heart” represents moving beyond simply seeing to truly believing through faith.
“It takes effort to see and believe with your heart,” she said.
Several chapters explore emotional themes such as forgiveness, peace, worthiness, and grief. One reflects on her healing following her mother’s death, while others focus on redemption, personal growth, and overcoming negative influences.
At its core, Gauthier hopes readers take away a simple message — that God is love and that every person has purpose and worth.
She also speaks to modern challenges to faith, including distractions from technology and negativity. For those feeling lost, she encourages starting small by seeking connection and trusting the process.
“Even Jesus struggled,” she said. “So we will too.”
Rather than reading the devotional all at once, Gauthier encourages readers to take it one entry at a time, allowing space for reflection and prayer.
Feedback from readers has been powerful, with many sharing how the book has spoken directly to their experiences.
