Early Childhood Center receives $1,000 donation
The Early Childhood Development and Family Center of Avoyelles recently received a $1,000 donation from Raymond Laborde Correctional Center.
The center thanked the state prison for selecting the organization as a grant recipient and for investing in children in the community.
The donation will help support activities for the center’s after-school and summer children. Funds are expected to be used for games, toys and outdoor activities, including items such as scooters, board games, LEGO sets, water activities and other supplies.
Center officials said the facility was not originally designed for older children, but staff members work to provide a safe, fun and engaging place for them during the summer.
The grant will allow staff to add more opportunities for children to play, learn, build friendships and make lasting memories.
The center also thanked Lauren Harmason for advocating on its behalf.
