Exciting Leadership Updates at Avoyelles Parish Schools!

The Avoyelles Parish School Board has announced several mid-year administrative leadership updates effective January 2026 as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen school communities and support student success across the district.

Kimberly Diaz has been named assistant principal at Cottonport Elementary School. Diaz brings more than 20 years of experience in education and is widely recognized for her student-centered leadership approach. She most recently served as the Full Service Community School Coordinator at Riverside Elementary School where she worked closely with staff and families to provide wraparound services supporting both academic achievement and emotional well-being.

Diaz holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish Education from Louisiana Christian University and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Northwestern State University. Throughout her career, she has taught Spanish, English, social studies and elective courses, while also serving in leadership roles such as PBIS Chair, 504 Coordinator and Girls’ Soccer Coach.

“As a first-time assistant principal, I’m excited to serve alongside our Wildcat community,” Diaz said. “Together, we’ll build a school culture where every student can thrive.”

In addition to her professional career, Diaz is a longtime community volunteer at the Raymond Laborde Correctional Center, reflecting her strong commitment to service and community involvement.

Other administrative changes include Stephanie Belanger, who will transition to assistant principal at Bunkie Elementary Learning Academy (BELA). Faculty, staff, and students at BELA, along with Principal Sharice Sullivan, expressed enthusiasm in welcoming Belanger, who comes from Plaucheville Elementary School with extensive teaching and administrative experience.

Laura Hargis has also been appointed assistant principal at Plaucheville Elementary School, continuing her leadership service within the district.

These mid-year appointments follow previously announced principal assignments, including Ashley Ducote at Cottonport Elementary School and Contina Pierite at Avoyelles High School.

District officials said the leadership updates reflect a continued commitment to fostering strong school environments and supporting students across Avoyelles Parish.

The Avoyelles Parish School Board congratulated Diaz, Belanger and Hargis on their new roles and thanked them for their dedication to education, leadership and service.

Officials noted that these educators exemplify the district’s mission of achieving high standards, applauding good character, and accomplishing the extraordinary.
