✈️ Forgot Your ID? TSA Now Lets You Pay $45 to Fly Anyway — Here’s How It Works
The Transportation Security Administration will begin offering a new fee-based identity verification option for certain air travelers starting Feb. 1 according to officials at Alexandria International Airport (AEX)
The new process known as TSA ConfirmID is designed for travelers 18 years of age and older who arrive at airport security checkpoints without an acceptable form of identification such as a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or a U.S. passport
Under the program eligible travelers may pay a non-refundable $45 administrative fee to attempt to verify their identity using TSA’s modernized alternative identity-verification system The process uses biographic and biometric data to confirm a traveler’s identity
Airport officials emphasized that the fee does not guarantee clearance through security but only provides access to the identity-verification process Travelers who are successfully verified may still be subject to additional screening
The $45 fee covers identity verification for up to 10 days Travelers who attempt to fly again without proper identification after that period would be required to pay the fee again
TSA officials recommend that travelers arrive early ensure they carry acceptable identification and confirm compliance with REAL ID requirements to avoid delays or additional costs at airport checkpoints
For more information about acceptable forms of identification and TSA security procedures travelers are encouraged to visit the TSA website prior to departure
