    80 Years Ago โ From our October 26, 1945 Edition
The heaviest rainfall in more than forty years visited Ev-
ergreen section, according to veteran resident of the com-
munity, S.S. Pearce.
Mrs. Frances Butler received a letter recently from her
husband telling her that he had been promoted to Sargeant.
Sgt butler is with the Army Air Corps of the Ninth Air Force,
and at present is stationed in Germany.
Lt. Robert H. Harwood, Jr. has recently been promoted
to Lieutenant Commander. His wife, the former Ms. Puds
Pratt, of Bunkie, and their two daughters, Mary Buie and
Evelyn Hope, have made their home in Annapolis since Lt.
Harwood has been in school there.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brisolara and Mrs. David Perkins
drove to Camp Shelby in Mississippi, where they met Sgt.
David Perkins who has recently returned from overseas duty
and was discharged from the Army at Camp Shelby.
Major Twyman J. Brouillette, son of Mr. and Mrs. P.F.
Brouillette, came home from Camp Shelby, Mississippi
after serving 25 months overseas. He has two brothers in
the service, T/5 Raymond Brouillette, who is stationed in
India and Lt. Alfred Brouillette, at Camp Blanding, Florida.
70 Years Ago โ From our October 28, 1955 Edition
Pvt. Herbert Coales, Jr. is receiving his basic training at
Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, with the 34th Medium Tank Bat-
talion, Armored Division, United States Army. He is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Coates of St. Landry.
Lt. Col. Alton Moreau, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emile Mo- reau, with his wife and two daughters, Linda Blanche and
Nancy Joe, have made their home in Mildlenhall, England
for more than two years, when Col. Moreau was stationed
at the Air Force base there.
A party, which included Bob McIntyre, Tommie Harris,
Edwin Rabalais, โBuddyโ Bordelon and Howard Fore trav- eled to Port Sulphur, when they were guests of Mr. W.H.
Mecom, Vice-President and Mr. I.J. Becnel, Director of Ag-
ricultural Research at Freeport Sulphur Company.
The Luncheon Club met at the home of Mrs. Burton
Dupuy on South Holly Street. Those attending were Mrs. P.
Earl Nielson, Mrs. Anson Dwen, Mrs. James M. Russell,
Mrs. Franklin T. Turner, Mrs. J.B. Luke, Mrs. Jetry Ryan
and Mrs. Harvey K. Bubenzer, Jr.

Carol Heiman of Evergreen is the editor of the LSUA
Yearbook, Sauce Piquante, for the 1965-66 session. A grad- uate of Bunkie High School, Carol is planning a teaching
career.
Col. Walter R . Hardee, Jr., husband of the former Annie
Lipoma of Bunkie, received the U.S. Air Force Commen- dation Medal at Oxnard AFB, California from Maj. Gen.
Carroll W. McColpin, Commander.
Dan Dupree was the only senior boy to make Bโs or
better, while Geraldine Cochran, Sara Beth Eakin and Becky
Newton were the twelfth grade girls on the honor roll. Davis
Mayeux, George Paddy, Linda Bordelon, Margaret Ducote,
Debbie Fontane, Linda Howard and Susan Tanner were the
eleventh graders on the list.
Randall Johnson, Al Eiland and Howard Hall were no- where to be found last week, because they were busy clean- ing those fish, they went all the way to Arkansas to catch.

Models for the Ladies Auxiliary of Bunkie General Hos-
pitalโs benefit style show were Miss Susie Roy wearing a
daytime dress; Ms. Becky Roy in a matching sweater and
pants outfit; Mrs. Kate Jeansonne, wearing a formal long
dress and Ms. Debbie Jones in a day time dress.
Governor Edwin Edwards signed the Act of Sale for the
new Pomme de Terre Wildlife Management Area in Avoy-
elles Parish. The 3,911 acre tract marked the sixth purchase
of land by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission
this year. Present at the signing were Harvey Clay Luttrell,
commission chairman; Marc Dupuy, Jr., commission
member and J. Burton Angelle, director.
40 Years Ago โ From our October 27, 1985 Edition
Jimmy Earles presented a plaque to the family of the late
Raymond Turner, a Ducks Unlimited charter member and
supporter at the DU banquet in Haas Auditorium. Accepting
were Turnerโs tons, Kevin and Dwight and his father, Ro-
land.
Members of Simmesport High Darling Dancers are Lana
Polkey, Sherrie Wilson, Kim Adams, Kristy Kimble, Patra
Coco, Jody Rabalais, Tara Moreau, Veronica Keller, Renee
Zimmerman, Tonia Williams, Billie Jo Parks, Dana Parker,
Amy Menzina and Roxanne Mayeux. The sponsor is Ger-
alyn Moreau.
The Arts and Humanities Council of Avoyelles an- nounced that Mrs. Patty Lemoine of Cottonport will repre- sent the Council at the Mrs. Louisiana Pageant on
November 2, at the Sugar Cane Festival Building in New
Iberia.
Mrs. Lemoine was chosen Mrs. Avoyelles in a contest
which served as a fund-raiser for the Arts and Humanities
Council of Avoyelles. She is the wife of Rusty Lemoine and
the mother of one daughter, Claire.
30 Years Ago โ From our October 26, 1995 Edition
State Senator Don Hines, of Bunkie, won re-election to
the Louisiana State Senate on Saturday with an easy victory
over Jim Demoruelle. Senator Hines is from District 28,
which covers an area from Avoyelles Parish to just north of
Lake Charles in Calcasieu Parish. Also elected from District
26, which includes part of Avoyelles Parish was Tommy Ca-
sanova from Crowley.
An olden time program will be held at the Plymouth
Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Morrow at 7 p.m. on
October 28, 1995. Pastor Isaac Fontenot is the pastor of the
church.
The City of Bunkie now has a holding pen for dogs and
cats. The city has picked up several dogs during its first
week.
20 Years Ago โ From our Oct. 27, 2005 edition
National Relief Charities provided Avoyelles Parish edu-
cators with much needed supplies because of the influx of
students due to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
A fundraiser to raise money for New Orleans after the
devastation of Hurricane Katrina, was presented at the Fox
Theater in Marksville.
Wade Griffin of Cottonport was convicted of manslaugh- ter in the stabbing death of Marcus Conway of Marksville.

Eighteen bags of marijuana were found in a seven-year
old Bunkie Elementary studentโs backpack and led to the
arrest of parents, Brandon Butler and Kimberly Jones.
