🚑 Heartwarming Reunion: First Responders Meet Patient They Saved!

A group of first responders were able to meet a patient at the Rapides Regional Medical Center whose life they had saved just days before.

Acadian Ambulance Avoyelles Parish Paramedics Alexis Pearson and Kyle Bergeaux and EMTs Aaron Nelson and Tommy Simon reunited with a patient they successfully resuscitated in the early morning hours of Jan. 2.

Alex and Sheronda were visiting Marksville to welcome the New Year when Alex experienced shortness of breath that turned into cardiac arrest.

Pearson, Bergeaux, Nelson and Simon provided advanced lifesaving care and transported the patient to Rapides Regional Medical Center, where his recovery continued.

Just one week later, as Alex prepared to be discharged and return home, the crew members were given a rare and meaningful opportunity to reunite with Alex and Sheronda.

“Y’all are the reason why we do this,” Pearson said.

The couple expressed their gratitude at the opportunity to visit with the team who had cared for Alex during his most critical moments, according to Acadian Ambulance Quality Improvement Coordinator Tyler Farris.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to Rapides Regional Medical Center and their entire care team for continuing the patient’s care after arrival,” Farris said. “Their skill, dedication, and teamwork played a vital role in the patient’s recovery and made this reunion possible.”
