Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Bunkie!

A crowd gathered Sunday afternoon, Jan. 18, for Bunkie’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative March, honoring the life, legacy and enduring message of the iconic Civil Rights leader.

Held under the theme “The Dream Continues,” the march paid tribute to Dr. King’s historic 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech and reflected on its lasting relevance in today’s communities.

Marchers and car riders traveled together through Bunkie, displaying handmade signs, banners, and placards inspired by Dr. King’s words and vision, while Civil Rights–era songs echoed throughout the procession.

Members of The Brew Crew, a local civic organization, served as Movement Leaders for the event, helping guide participants and maintain the spirit of unity and purpose throughout the march.

Following the procession, a remembrance service was held at the Bunkie City Hall Annex. David and Carlette Christmas of On Point Media delivered a reflective message encouraging continued service, unity and justice in keeping with Dr. King’s legacy.

Mayor Brenda C. Sampson and the Bunkie City Council expressed appreciation to all participants, organizers, volunteers and city employees who helped make the 2026 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative March a meaningful and memorable event.
