Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Marksville!
Community members gathered in Marksville for a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative and Recognition Program as part of the 2026 MLK observances, honoring Dr. King’s life, legacy, and continued call for justice and equality.
The program was held at St. John Community Church–Baptist at noon and carried the theme, “Continuing Dr. King’s Dream of Pursuing Justice, Renewing a Spirit of Empowerment.”
Pastor Charles E. Guillory served as master of ceremonies, with scripture readings, prayers, and musical selections provided by local clergy and the Parish Community Choir.

- A recitation of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech
- Musical presentations
- A video tribute reflecting on Dr. King’s message.
Carlette Christmas, host of On Point Talk Media, delivered the guest address, emphasizing unity, service, and the ongoing pursuit of justice.
The observance concluded with remarks from Minister Rosa Pierite, president of the Avoyelles NAACP, the singing of “Lift Every Voice,” and fellowship following the program.
