Honoring Our Heroes: Vietnam Memorial Unveiling on March 29
Residents of Avoyelles Parish are invited to gather in remembrance as the community honors those who served and those who never returned on National Vietnam War Veterans Day.
American Legion Post 130, along with the CENLA Honor Guard, will host the ceremony on Sunday, March 29 at 1 p.m. at the Vietnam Memorial located on Hwy 1 across from Walmart in Marksville. The replica memorial honors the 15 Avoyelles Parish men who gave their lives in Vietnam.
The monument was originally unveiled on Nov. 11, 2017. Since that time, it has served as a place of reflection for families, veterans, and community members. Through the efforts of American Legion Post 130, the memorial has recently been restored, and the March 29 ceremony will mark the official unveiling of the restored monument.
The site honors the 15 servicemen from Avoyelles Parish who were killed in action during the Vietnam War. Their names are permanently inscribed as a lasting reminder of their sacrifice and bravery.
The ceremony will honor all Vietnam veterans, especially those who did not receive the welcome they deserved.
Organizers invite Gold Star families, veterans, and the public to attend and join the community in gratitude and remembrance. Light refreshments will follow the ceremony.
