Man Found Inside Vacant Bunkie Home Runs From Police Before Being Arrested
BUNKIE — A man believed to be from Honduras was taken into custody Thursday morning after being discovered inside a vacant property in Bunkie.
According to the Bunkie Police Department, officers responded on March 5, 2026, after a citizen reported a man sleeping inside a vacant house on Williams Street. When officers arrived and attempted to make contact, the man reportedly ran from police.
After a brief foot pursuit, officers apprehended the suspect. Authorities said the man resisted officers during the chase but was ultimately taken into custody without further incident.
During the booking process, officers determined the man did not have identification. Police said he told officers he is from Honduras and is in the United States illegally. Officials said it is not yet known how he arrived in Bunkie or why he was in the area.
The suspect was arrested on several charges, including:
- Resisting an officer with force or violence
- Flight from an officer
- Remaining after being forbidden (signage)
- Illegal entry into the State of Louisiana by an illegal alien
The man was transported to the Avoyelles Parish DC-1 Jail, where he was booked on the charges. Authorities said a detainer has been placed for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. His name and identity had not yet been confirmed at the time of the report.
Assistant Chief of Police Brandon Horton commended officers for their response, stating that the department remains committed to enforcing local, state, and federal laws while keeping the community safe.
