🚨 Inmate Escape Attempt at Avoyelles Hospital Foiled! 🚔

An inmate being treated at Avoyelles Hospital briefly attempted to flee custody Monday, Dec. 8, before being quickly apprehended on hospital grounds, according to the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO).

The inmate, identified as Dayton D. Johnson, 27, of Marksville, was in the custody of APSO DC-1 Corrections Personnel when he broke away and ran a short distance in an apparent escape attempt.

Corrections personnel immediately pursued and detained Johnson before he could leave the property.

Officers with the Marksville Police Department responded to the scene and assisted following Johnson’s apprehension. He was subsequently transported back to APSO DC-1, where he had been held since his August 7, 2025 arrest by the Louisiana State Police.

The incident is now under a multi-agency investigation. Marksville Police Department is the primary agency investigating offenses that occurred at the hospital, while APSO is handling the investigation related to the charge of Simple Escape.
