Join the Fun at LDWF's Boating Education Day!🚤

LDWF to Host Boating Education Lagniappe Day

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will host its 15th annual “Boating Education Lagniappe Day” on Saturday, April 25, at locations across the state.

Participating areas include:

  • Caddo
  • Ouachita
  • Rapides
  • Lafayette
  • Calcasieu
  • Terrebonne
  • Ascension
  • Tangipahoa
  • St. Tammany parishes.

The event offers free National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) approved boating education courses, certification, and lunch, with some locations also offering door prizes. Space is limited and registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis at www.wlf.louisiana.gov.

Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1984 must complete a NASBLA-approved boating education course and carry proof of completion to operate a motorboat over 10 horsepower.

Local Information (Rapides Parish)

The Rapides Parish class will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Region 3 LDWF Enforcement Office, 1995 Shreveport Highway, Pineville. The event is sponsored by Leebo’s Stores.

The course covers topics including:

  • Boat selection
  • Equipment requirements
  • Navigation rules
  • Safety practices
  • And more.

Participants who complete the course will receive a vessel operator certification.

LDWF encourages residents to register early due to limited seating.
