Lafargue students earn National Beta honors

Two Lafargue Elementary students earned national recognition this summer after competing at the 2026 National Beta Convention in Nashville and were recognized during the Avoyelles Parish School Board meeting on Aug. 18.

Rob Luneau placed fifth nationally in Elementary Sculpture with a papier-mâché alligator, competing against 54 students from across the country. Luneau also finished among the Top 20 nationally in Spelling after previously placing fourth in the event at the state convention.

Chance Dauzat earned fourth place nationally in Junior Apparel Design with his original T-shirt design.

The students received awards during the Aug. 18 School Board meeting in recognition of their national accomplishments.

Avoyelles Parish Schools recognized both students for representing the district on the national stage and demonstrating the achievement, character, leadership and creativity promoted through National Beta.

School officials also thanked Beta sponsors Josh Timothy and Sarah Landry, along with the students’ families, for their encouragement and support.

The National Beta Convention brought together students from across the country to compete in academic, artistic and leadership events.
