LSUA honors Dr. Paul Coreil as Chancellor Emeritus!

Retired LSU of Alexandria Chancellor Paul Coreil was honored Saturday, Sept. 5, at Tiger Stadium with the honorary title of Chancellor Emeritus, recognizing more than four decades of service to LSU and Louisiana.

The recognition came during the first quarter of LSU’s season opener against Clemson, when LSU President Wade Rousse presented the honor before a crowd of more than 100,000 fans.

Coreil, who also writes a weekly column for The Avoyelles Weekly News, retired July 1 after eight years as chancellor of LSUA.

His 43-year career with LSU also included extensive service with the LSU AgCenter and Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service.

The Chancellor Emeritus designation recognizes distinguished service by a former university leader and maintains an ongoing association with the institution following retirement.

LSUA administrators, faculty, staff and students supported the designation in recognition of Coreil’s leadership and role in the university’s growth.

During his tenure, LSUA enrollment grew from approximately 3,285 students in 2019 to nearly 8,000 by spring 2026. The university also expanded academic programs, student services, campus facilities and partnerships throughout the LSU System.

Coreil supported programs and pathways in professional aviation, healthcare, pre-medicine, technology and other high-demand fields while working to create additional opportunities for LSUA students to pursue advanced and professional degrees within the LSU System.

His career has also been recognized through induction into the LSU AgCenter Hall of Fame, Louisiana 4-H Hall of Fame, National 4-H Hall of Fame, Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction and LSUA Athletics Hall of Fame.

Coreil has also received recognition from the Louisiana Legislature and numerous civic and professional organizations.

The Chancellor Emeritus honor further recognizes Coreil’s place in LSUA’s history and his long association with the university system.
