Man arrested after Main St. disturbance

A Simmesport man was arrested following a disturbance that police said escalated into a confrontation with officers.

According to the Simmesport Police Department, officers responded around 5:45 p.m. to the 500 block of Main Street after receiving a complaint about an unwanted person who allegedly refused to leave the property and appeared possibly impaired.

Police identified the man as Scott Reine.

When officers arrived, police said Reine refused verbal commands and was carrying what officers described as a makeshift knife and a whip.

Police said officers deployed a Taser while attempting to take Reine into custody and alleged that he continued resisting before being restrained.

After Reine was placed inside a police vehicle, officers said he intentionally began banging his head against the interior. He was then taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

According to Simmesport police, Reine continued displaying disruptive and violent behavior at the hospital. Marksville Police Department officers were called to assist, and police allege Reine damaged hospital property during the incident.

After receiving medical treatment, Reine was transported to the Avoyelles Parish Jail.

He was booked on charges of criminal trespass, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting an officer by violence and aggravated assault.

The Simmesport Police Department thanked Marksville police and hospital personnel for their assistance.
