Marion Woman Arrested After Pond Incident and Altercation With Deputies
Erin Elizabeth Sutton (41 year old female) was arrested for resisting, disturbing the peace, battery of a police officer, trespassing, and more.
A Union Parish woman was arrested after deputies say she trespassed on a neighbor’s property and later attacked law enforcement during an unusual incident in the Linville community.
According to the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded after a homeowner reported that a neighbor—who had previously been warned not to trespass—was in their driveway yelling. When deputies arrived, they found the woman, identified as 41-year-old Erin Elizabeth Sutton of Marion, swimming naked in a pond on the property.
Deputies say Sutton refused several commands to come out of the water, telling them she was “trying to be a mermaid.” When she eventually exited the pond, EMS was called to evaluate her. Officials report that while being escorted toward a residence, Sutton suddenly charged at a deputy.
Attempts to restrain her—including the use of a taser—were unsuccessful at first, and deputies say Sutton kicked and punched during the struggle. She was eventually subdued and transported to a hospital, where authorities say she threatened both deputies and paramedics.
Because Sutton required medical treatment, warrants were later obtained. She was arrested on January 6 and booked on multiple charges, including:
- Three counts of resisting an officer with force or violence
- Two counts of public intimidation
- Two counts of battery of a police officer
- Disturbing the peace (drunkenness)
- Criminal trespassing
Her bond was set at $62,000.
