Marksville’s Armonii Benjamin Signs with Southern University, Makes Local History
MARKSVILLE, La. — A major milestone has been reached for Marksville basketball as standout athlete Armonii Benjamin has officially signed to continue his academic and athletic career at Southern University.
Benjamin’s signing marks a significant moment for the local program, as he becomes the first Marksville basketball player in two decades to earn a spot at a Division I school.
Throughout his high school career, Benjamin built an impressive resume on the court. He played a key role in securing three state championships between his time with the Marksville Tigers and Avoyelles Charter. His performance on the biggest stage earned him recognition as the Division III Non-Select Championship Game MVP in a victory over Madison.
For Benjamin, the accomplishment carries personal meaning beyond athletics. Following in the footsteps of a family member who previously reached the same level, he hopes to inspire others in the community to pursue similar goals.
“I just want to set a good example,” Benjamin said. “This is the blueprint.”
Now, as he prepares to take the next step at Southern University, Benjamin’s journey stands as a source of pride for Marksville and a reminder of what dedication and hard work can achieve.
