New Fishing Limits Approved for Saline–Larto Complex!
New fishing regulations for the Saline–Larto Complex were approved during the March meeting of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Commission.
According to State Representative Mike Johnson, the commission voted to support a resolution establishing updated size and daily catch limits for crappie and bass in the popular fishing area. The request for the changes came from local residents as well as the Rapides Parish Police Jury.
Under the newly approved guidelines:
- Crappie must meet a 10-inch minimum size limit, with anglers allowed to keep up to 25 fish per day.
- For bass, the new regulation sets a 14-inch minimum size requirement and a daily limit of eight fish.
“These changes came directly from many of the fishermen and community members who use the Saline–Larto Complex,” Johnson said. “We appreciate the support from the Rapides Parish Police Jury and everyone who helped bring attention to the issue.”
The new regulations will take effect once required administrative procedures are completed and are expected to be formally published later this summer.
Wildlife and Fisheries officials will continue to monitor fish populations in the Saline–Larto Complex and may recommend additional adjustments in the future if needed.
In the coming months, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries staff will hold informational meetings across the region to explain the new regulations and answer questions from the public.
Johnson said he also hopes to host a larger public meeting later this year where residents can meet with department officials, discuss hunting and fishing issues, and share ideas on how to continue improving the Saline–Larto Complex.
