APSO, U.S. Marshals capture third escapee

Another Avoyelles Parish escapee was captured by parish and federal law enforcement officers Thursday.

William Johnson, 27, of Marksville was seen in Marksville by an Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office staff member, who alerted APSO. APSO detectives and a member of the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force responded and quickly located Williams.

Johnson fled on foot, but was captured without incident after a brief chase.

Johnson was charged with simple escape and simple criminal damage to property in connection with the Sept. 27 breakout from Avoyelles Detention Center #1 in Marksville. He is being held on $230,000 bond.

He is the third of the five esca[ed inmates toi be captured.

Johnson was awaiting trial on charges of simple assault, simple battery, domestic abuse-child endangerment, drug charges and parole/probation violation when he escaped.

Kyle Cavalier, 19, and Davantae Williams, 20, both of Bunkie, were recaptured Sept. 30 in Alexandria.

Still at large are Dakeylon Berry, 19, of Hessmer and Rondrakus Taylor, 19, of Mansura.

Berry is 5’10” tall with black hair and could be in the Mansura area. He was charged with home invasion, aggravated battery and simple assault. Taylor is 5’6” tall with black hair and possibly in the Mansura area. He was in jail on charges of illegal use of a weapon, aggravated assault with a firearm and armed robbery.

Sheriff David Dauzat said the escape is still under investigation and charges will be filed against any individuals suspected of assisting in the escape.

Dauzat thanks the "dedicated professionals that worked together to apprehend this offender, and safely place him back behind bars. Also, a special thanks to all police agencies for continuing to assist us in trying to locate the escapees."
