Simmesport P.D. arrests shooting suspect

A suspect in the Oct. 7 shooting of Simmesport man was arrested by Simmesport police Wednesday.

An SPD spokesman said Anthony Williams, 33, was arrested after police received an anonymous tip concerning his whereabouts. When police pulled behind the vehicle in which Williams was a passenger, the suspect left the car and fled on foot.

After a brief foot chase, police caught and arrested Williams.

Williams is accused of shooting Marcus Alexander of Simmesport once in the abdomen with a handgun following an argument on Oct. 7.

Alexander's family had offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to Williams' arrest.

Williams was booked into Avoyelles Detention Center #1 in Marksville on a charge of attempted 2nd degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Bond is expected to be set Friday.
