Avoyelles beats Bunkie; Marksville shut out by Church Point

Avoyelles High took the lead in the chase of the unofficial title of Avoyelles Parish high school football champion with a 54-13 victory over the Bunkie Panthers Friday night.

Bunkie started the season with a 26-0 win over Marksville. Marksville's troubled Tigers could still prevent an outright claim by the Mustangs when they host AHS on Oct. 22.

Marksville remained winless on the season with a 51-0 whitewashing from Church Point Friday.

After four games, the Mustangs have outscored their opponents 196 to 74. Marksville has been outscored 161-14.

Bunkie had an open date in Week 2 and is now 2-1. The Panthers have scored 70 points and given up 62 in three games, but 54 of those were by Avoyelles.
