Mustangs run wild over Carroll, 86-34; Tigers fall to Sacred Heart-VP, 35-7

The Avoyelles Mustangs ran roughshod over the Carroll Bulldogs Friday night in Monroe, pummeling the Pups, 86-34.

The Mustangs turned things around from the previous Friday's experience with the Rayne Wolves, which Avoyelles barely survived with a 22-20 win. The Men from Moreauville had only one turnover against Carroll while victimizing the Bulldogs five times -- three fumble recoveries and two interceptions that were returned for touchdowns.

Carlos Bazert carried the ball 23 times for 378 yards for four of the Mustangs' 12 TDs. Dacareyn Sampson had three rushing touchdowns and a pass reception for a TD, with three of his scoring plays starting over 50 yards away from the goal line. He ran nine times for 172 yards and caught two passes for 74 yards.

Meanwhile, the Marksville Tigers fell hard to the Sacred Heart Trojans in Ville Platte, 35-7.

The Bunkie Panthers had a week off to enjoy their upset victory over archrival Marksville last Friday to claim the Catskin banner -- the symbol of victory in the 70-year football feud. The Panthers beat the Tigers, 26-0, in that game.
