21 year old killed in Bunkie homicide

On December 29, 2021, at approximately 1755 hours, the Avoyelles Communication Center received a 911 call from Bunkie Police Department reporting a deceased victim with an apparent gunshot wound at the Augustine Apartments, located at 702 East Church Street, Bunkie, Louisiana. Bunkie Police Chief Scott Ferguson called the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) Criminal Investigations Unit and requested that APSO become the lead investigating agency to investigate the alleged homicide. APSO Detectives responded to the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Acadian Ambulance Service responded to the scene and their personnel found no signs of life in the female victim. The Avoyelles Parish Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and pronounced her deceased.

Further investigation by the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office Detectives and the Avoyelles Parish Coroner’s Office revealed the identity of the female as Maya Ann Gaspard, a 21-year-old female of 702 East Church Street, Bunkie, Louisiana. No arrest has been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
