voyelles Public Charter Secures Spot in Division V Championship GameSulphur, La. – The Avoyelles Public Charter School Vikings secured their spot in the Division V Select State Championship Game for the second consecutive year after a 6-0 semifinal win over Rapides on Tuesday. The defending Division V Select State Champions will head to the State Championship Game with a record of 20-5 on the season. The Vikings wasted no time jumping out to an early lead against the Mustangs on Tuesday morning. The Vikings scored three runs on two hits and three walks from Mustang pitching. Tanner Dupuy worked a leadoff walk to get things started followed by walks to Conner Mayeux and Luke Ponthier. The Vikings got in the hit column for the first time in the game when Wesley Lacour and Sebastian Lemoine each drove in a run with back-to-back singles.Dupuy reached base again to lead off the second inning with a single. He was followed by another walk to Ponthier which once again set the stage for Lacour in an RBI opportunity. Lacour delivered again for the Vikings with a two-run single up the middle after an eight pitch at bat. The Vikings would get their sixth run of the game in the third inning when Dupuy collected another hit, this time driving in Carson Lemoine and strengthening the Vikings’ grip on their semifinal matchup with the Mustangs. Dupuy and Lacour each had two hits and drove in four runs between the pair. Both Sebastian and Carson Lemoine had a hit apiece as the Vikings drew four walks on the day and stole five bases. “Dupuy is what gets us going every time we step on the field,” said Vikings’ Head Coach Stu Regard. “He was terrific at the plate once again and made some sensational defensive plays. Wesley (Lacour) battled at the plate for us all day and really came through in some clutch situation to help us win this game.” The Vikings’ six run, six hit performance was more than enough for starter JP Bordelon who delivered another stellar outing in the semifinals for the second consecutive year. Bordelon threw five innings, allowed no runs on just two hits, and finished with seven strikeouts. “I though JP (Bordelon) threw the ball well today,” continued Coach Regard. “He got hit on the finger early in the game but managed to grind out five quality innings for us.”Bordelon handed the ball over to Jonah Chatelain in the sixth and the junior right hander worked the final two innings while giving up only one hit.The Vikings will take on the Family Community Warriors in the championship game on Friday, May 10 at 11 a.m. CT from McMurry Park in Sulphur. It is a rematch of last year’s title game in which the Vikings were victorious by a final score of 3-0, earning the school’s first ever State Championship.“Getting back to Sulphur has been this team’s goal since the beginning of the season,” said Regard. “To have the opportunity to defend our championship Friday is something that these young men are extremely excited about.”
