Avoyelles under flash flood watch until 1 p.m. Saturday

Avoyelles Parish and other central and south Louisiana parishes are under a flash flood watch until 1 p.m. Saturday. The watch affects neighboring Evangeline, Rapides and St. Landry parishes.

Soils are at or near saturation in many areas with more rain expected through Saturday afternoon. Additional run off could flood low-lying areas and those with poor drainage.

A flash flood watch means conditions may develop that could lead to flash flooding, which is a very dangerous situation. Residents of affected parishes should monitor forecasts and be prepared to take action should a flash flood warning -- indicating the presence or imminent threat of flash flooding -- be issued.
