Bunkie Man Arrested for Attempted Murder and Arson

State Fire Marshal (SFM) deputies have arrested a Bunkie man for setting fire to a house with someone inside.

Jeffery Dixon, 46, was booked into the Avoyelles Parish Jail on Tuesday, January 30, on one count each of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Aggravated Arson, Simple Burglary and Violation of a Protective Order.

Around 7:15 p.m. on January 30, the Bunkie Fire Department responded to the 300 block of S. Louisiana Avenue for a report of a house fire. Firefighters arrived to find the home’s back porch on fire and one of the residents safely outside. Fortunately, they were able to quickly put the fire out.

Investigating SFM deputies determined the fire was intentionally set and identified Dixon as a suspect.

Dixon was located a few houses away by the Bunkie Police Department and a warrant was obtained for Dixon’s arrest in connection with this fire.

The SFM would like to thank the Bunkie Fire and Police Departments for their partnership in closing this case so quickly.
