Dixon arrested in courthouse bomb threat

A Plaucheville man has been arrested in connection with a fake bomb threat that required law enforcement agencies to temporarily close the Avoyelles Parish courthouse and block access to downtown Marksville on June 8.

State Police arrested Michael Scott Dixon, 44, on Monday (June 14) and booked him into Avoyelles Detention Center #1 on a charge of terrorizing and one count of communicating a planned arson.

Dixon is still in custody under $150,000 bond.

On the morning of June 8 the Avoyelles Parish 911 Communications Center received a bomb threat from a man who said he was going to set off a bomb at the courthouse. Avoyelles S.O., State Police and Marksville P.D. and Fire Department units responded to the scene. A search and investigation found no explosive devices.

APSO requested Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations agents to continue the investigation into the bomb threat. That investigation identified Dixon as a suspect.

APSO and St. Landry S.O. assisted in the investigation and arrest of Dixon.
