Former Governor Edwin Edwards' Lie In State Visitation

Thursday, July 15, 2021 - A public "Lie-In-State" visitation for former Governor Edwin Edwards, who passed away Monday, July 12, will be held this Saturday, July 17, 2021, from 10 am to 7 pm in Memorial Hall of the Louisiana State Capitol, located on the 1st floor. For security purposes, no bags larger than a small purse will be permitted.

Only credentialed members of the press will be allowed in the area designated for media on Saturday; however, the service will be streamed live by Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) from 10:00 am to noon. LPB will also provide a pooled broadcast.

On Sunday, July 18, at noon, a processional to the Old State Capitol will begin where former Governor Edwards will be escorted to the Old State Capitol by horse-drawn carriage, law enforcement motorcade, and the Southern University Marching Band.

While the public is welcome to attend Saturday's viewing, the private service held on Sunday is for family and invited guests only. Former Governor Edwards will be laid to rest during a private burial held at Resthaven Cemetery.

In celebration of Governor Edwards' life, the Edwards family has asked that NO photographs or videos be taken on Saturday. The State Capitol will be closed to public tours. in Edwards' Lie In State Visitation
