Franks over Roy

Home Rule Chater proponents cross hurdle

Police jury president, Kirby, Roy has lost his bid for reelection.

The Secretary of State website is reporting Travis Franks as the winner in the police Jury district centering in the Hessmer area.

This was the only local run off election on the ballot in Avoyelles Parish.

Franks is a former mayor of Hessmer and is the fourth pro home rule charter candidate for Police Jury to defeat an incumbent

Roy has served several terms on the Jury and had been chosen by other jurors as president.

Under the Home Rule Charter system, voters will elect a president of the newly created parish governing authority. The four new police jurors mean now the Home Rule Chater can be placed o the ballot for voters to decide if they want the new form of local government. All four of the newly elected jurors had been endorsed by a group promoting the Home Rule Charter.

FIRE FEE HEADED FOR DEFEAT
The other closely watched race in Avoyelles parish is the fire district fee, which appears to be heading for a sound defeat.
