Unofficial election results: Bunkie Mayor run-off; new police chief

With all 10 precincts reporting, the unofficial March 26 election results show a run-off in the Bunkie Mayor's seat and a new Police Chief for the city.

With 4 of 4 precincts reporting in Bunkie, incumbent Bruce Coulon received 433 votes while Brenda Sampson, an alderman who gave up her seat to run for Mayor, received 587 votes. In third was Chris Jeansonne who received 171 of the 1,191 total reported votes.The unofficial turnout was 53.2%. Coulon and Sampson will face each other in a run-off for Mayor.

In the Police Chief race, incumbent Scotty Ferguson received 580 votes being narrowly defeated by Julius Mays, who received 602.The unofficial Turnout was: 52.8% with 1,191 voters.

In the alderman races, Vanessa Juneau defeated Bill Longoria with a 630 to 524 vote. In this race, there was an unofficial Turnout of 51.5% or 1,154 voters.

In District 1, Sullivan "Butch" Battiste, Jr. was the winner over Francis G. Keller, Sr wih Battiste receiving 153 votes and Keller receiving 91. The unofficial turnout was 45% or 244 voters in this district.

In District 2, Courtney "Coco" Sampson was the winner with 146 votes. She defeated two opponents, Leslie Mathews who received 79 votes and Lucins Eggins who received 58 votes. This race saw 283 voters with a Unofficial Turnout: 47.1%.

District 3 race saw Kendricks Johnson win with 136 votes over Clay Whittington, who received 68 of the 204 unofficial votes. The unofficial turnout for this race was 41.7%.

District 4 was a neck and neck race to the finish as each candidate kept a 50% voting margin until the final precinct was reported. In the end Jerrod Normand has been named the unofficial winner of the seat with 191 of the 375 total votes. His opponent Joshua "Josh" Mayeux received 184. This race also reported the largest unofficial voting turnout of 61.8%.
