Tunica-Biloxi Tribal Council raises minimum wage for tribal enterprises employees

The minimum wage at all Tunica-Biloxi enterprises, including Paragon Casino Resort, was raised to $8.50 an hour by the Tribal Council on Wednesday (Aug. 1) and will go into effect this coming Monday (Aug. 6).

The state minimum wage is $7.25 per hour.

The 17 percent raise applies to all non-tip hourly wage employees, or about 25 percent of the tribe’s employees in Avoyelles Parish.

Tribal Chairman Marshall Pierite said raising the minimum wage was a top priority of the Tribal Council.

“We recognize the value of all of our employees,” Pierite said. “Raising the minimum wage to $8.50 per hour for all enterprises, including Paragon Casino Resort, will be good for our employees, for the Tribe and for the local community, which is important to us.”

The chairman said he receives many compliements from guests about the tribal enterprises employees they encounter.

“Our employees’ motivation and performance are a great representation of tribal enterprises, and we want to be able to show the confidence we have in their abilities,” Pierite said.
