Agatha Bordelon, 86, Mansura

Funeral Mass for Agatha Bordelon of Mansura will begin at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Mansura with Fr. Chad Partain officiating. Entombment will follow at the St. Paul Mausoleum.
Agatha Bordelon, age 86, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Hessmer Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews, Amie (David) McLain, Tina (Dalvin) Warren, John (Deborah) Juneau, Jane (Mike) Douglas, Donna (William) Bush, Terry (Mark) Gordon, and Albert (Deanna) Bordelon. She is also survived by 18 great-nieces and nephews and 14 great-great-nephews.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers: John Juneau, Albert Bordelon, Dalvin Warren, Mike Douglas, Joseph Warren, and Tommy McLain.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Camille and Amie Bordelon; her sister, Janet Juneau (Joseph); her brother, Carol Bordelon (Jeannie); and her nieces, Linda McIntosh and Michelle Woods.

Agatha was born and raised in Mansura. She graduated from Mansura High School in 1956. She started her college career at LSU, transferred to USL, and received a bachelor’s in elementary education. She started her working career in New Iberia teaching first grade where she found her passion. She received her master’s degree from Northwestern University in the early 70s. She then embarked on a 15-year career in Lafayette teaching first grade until she chose to move back to Mansura to care for her ailing mother and family. She then taught and enriched the lives of countless Avoyelles Parish children for the following 20 years teaching in the public school system and for 10 years in the private Catholic school system before retiring. She continued giving of herself as the head of the Catechism class for St. Paul’s Catholic Church ensuring all the children in our parish received the sacrament of first communion.

A creative spirit at heart, she had an innate talent for sewing, creating intricate designs with every stitch. She cherished the time spent in her garden, tending to the delicate blooms that painted her surroundings with bursts of color. Agatha's love for books was immeasurable, as she found solace and wonder in the pages of every tale. Her curious nature led her to explore the world around her, embarking on visits and scenic rides that revealed the beauty of her beloved parish.

She had many children throughout her life. She loved and cherished every one of them like they were her own. The children in her family who were lucky enough to have her will always remember and love her as a mother.

Friends may call at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, from 9:00am until 12:40pm.
