Albert J. Gremillion, 83, Plaucheville

Funeral Mass for Albert Joseph Gremillion of Plaucheville will begin at 12:30pm on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Plaucheville with Fr. Martin Laird officiating. Entombment will be in the Mater Dolorosa Mausoleum. Albert J. Gremillion, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
He was a graduate of Plaucheville High School and enlisted in the United States Army serving two years active duty.
He completed his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) in Lafayette while married to the love of his life, Myra. They were blessed to be happily married for 58 beautiful years.
Throughout the years, Albert was known as coach to many in our community and neighboring towns. He had a love for rabbit hunting with his beagles, working in his garden and being Poppa on the sideline of many ball games.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Visits with family and friends were always welcomed and often times those visits led to sharing stories, telling jokes and reminiscing about the past.
He retired from the Avoyelles Parish School System as a speech pathologist serving students throughout the parish for 33 years.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Holli (Jamie) McCaleb of Plaucheville, Teri (Benny) Broussard of Crowley, Jodi (Ken) Stansbury of Youngsville. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abbey & Mae Gremillion; siblings, Wilbur Gremillion, Dolores (Newman) Gremillion, Margaret (Hunter) English, Russell Gremillion and Teresa (Benny) Christiana.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Karli McCaleb, Pate Broussard, Alex McCaleb, Ben Broussard, Sophia Velotta, Ashlyn Stansbury & Hudson Velotta.
Visitation will begin on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Plaucheville beginning at 9:00am until 10:30am for all family members. A rosary will begin at 10:30 and visitation will resume from 11:00am until 12:30pm. Mass will begin at 12:30, burial will follow at the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Cemetery. Reception will follow at the Plaucheville Community Center.
