Anthony Simon, 52, Marksville native

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Anthony "Boo Boo" Weldon Simon will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Marksville with Father Abraham Varghese officiating. Interment will be in Holy Ghost Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville.
Mr. Simon, age 52, of Lancaster, TX formerly of Marksville, LA, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at his residence.
He was preceded in death by his father, Weldon John Simon, paternal grandparents, Abel and Elzika Ford Simon and maternal grandparents Leo P and Lona Johnson Greenhouse.
Anthony received his elementary education at Marksville Catholic School and high school education at Marksville High School and graduated in 1987. He enjoyed learning and decided to pursue a Bachelor of General Studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette graduating in May 1994. While there he joined the 256th Infantry Brigade of the Louisiana National Guard, in which he served as a Missile Specialist.
In 2000, Anthony relocated to Beaumont, TX to start his career at the Federal Bureau of Prisons. During this time, he continued his academic journey at Lamar University where he graduated with a Master of Science in Applied Criminology in 2005.
While at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Beaumont, TX, he exemplified leadership in several positions including: Senior Officer, Lead Hostage Negotiator, Case Manager, Correctional Treatment Specialist, Chief Steward, Union Delegate, and Complex Union President. In September of 2017, Anthony transferred to the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Seagoville, TX continuing in his position as a Correctional Treatment Specialist.
He was a parishioner of St. Anthony’s Cathedral Basilica Church in Beaumont, TX and an active parent at St. Anthony’s Cathedral School and Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School. Anthony was an outgoing person that was a friend to everyone that he met. He combined his passions for service and advocacy to assist those both in the community and at his work. For 21 years, Anthony was a dedicated and reliable staff member at the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
In his spare time, Anthony would be in company with friends and family. He had a love for music and often attended concerts to see some of his favorite artists. Anthony was the life of the party and could brighten the room with his presence and jokes. His cooking abilities were top notch with some of his signature dishes being: gumbo, shrimp fettuccine alfredo, and bread pudding. He enjoyed working outdoors, spending many weekends taking care of the animals on his father’s farm. He was an avid reader that believed in the power of knowledge and storytelling. Anthony was a well-rounded person that utilized his gifts to positively impact others and make valuable contributions to society. No task was too big or small for Anthony to handle. If there was an issue, he could find a solution. He was a resilient person, always ready to conquer the day despite any setbacks he had.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 30 years, Dianne S. Simon of Lancaster, TX; son, Anthony Q. Simon of Beaumont, TX, daughter, Kennedy N. Simon of Baton Rouge, LA; mother, Annatrail G. Simon of Marksville, LA; one brother, Michael E. Simon (Erica) of McKinney, TX; niece, Amber J. Joseph of McKinney, TX. And a host of devoted cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home on Friday, December 10, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will resume on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until shortly before service time.
A recitation of the rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be Paul Greenhouse, Timothy Greenhouse, Jessie Rogers, Derrick Rogers, Larry Nicholas, Jr., Issac Thomas, Russell Batiste, Randy Lee, Eric Popularus, and Carl Harvey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Al Greenhouse, Walter Rogers, Roger McGlory, Martin Batiste, Bruce Batiste, Christopher Batiste, Patrick Greenhouse, Lynn Alexander, Raymond Shields, Hurley LeDay, Jr., Clayton Franklin, Michael Daye and Antonio Jenkins.
