Brent Villemarette, 62, Hessmer native

Funeral Mass for Brent A. Villemarette will take place at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Hessmer on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021 beginning at 1:00pm with Rev. Edwin Rodriguez-Hernandez officiating. Burial will take place at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery.

Brent Villemarette, 62, of Opelousas, formerly of Hessmer, passed away on August 28, 2021 at Opelousas General Hospital. He was the second son of Melvin & Octavia Villemarette. After graduating high school in 1977, he attended Louisiana College for his bachelor’s degree in social work. He began working for the state of Louisiana in 1981 in Opelousas for the Department of Children and Family Services. He continued his education at LSU for his master’s degree in 1985. He worked for Children and Family Services to present day doing foster care, case management, supervisor, administrator, director, deputy secretary and consultant. He was the Vice Chairman of the Board for the La State Board of Social Work Examiners from May 2017 to August 2020. He also did social work for a member of Home Health Agencies. Brent went to New York for September 11th through the Red Cross to provide much needed social work for the families and rescue workers. He also was on the front lines for hurricanes, disasters, shelters, and organizing everything.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Tavia Villemarette; siblings, Bruce Villemarette (Debra) of Hessmer, Connie Dufour (Kenny) of Moreauville, and Andre Villemarette (Tina) of Hessmer. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Jeremy (Laura), Andrew, Devin, Olivia, and Emily; 3 great nieces and nephews; and his godchild, Kristen Trahan.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Villemarette.

Visitation will begin at Escude Funeral Home of Mansura on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021 from 9:00am to 1:00pm. A rosary will be recited before mass.
